Cause Cindy said so. :)

It has been years - literally - and Cindy says I should update.

Ahem.

I had lap-band surgery and it was a miserable failure for me.  Or would it be more accurate to say I was a
miserable failure at IT?  Not sure.  But it never stopped my hunger, and my body reacted as if it was a foreign body to be overcome.  I don't know.  I lost about 20 lbs and gained it back.  Yes, I had fills. Several, actually. And finally I asked my doc to loosen it again because basically it was uncomfortable and was pissing me off.

We discussed revision, having the lap-band removed and doing a different procedure, but damn if I hadn't picked the wrong insurance when I got my new job - and had to wait most of a year until I could choose a different plan, one that covers bariatric procedures.

Fast forward to now, I have been approved for gastric bypass.  I am waiting to get in to see the pulmonologist to get sign off, and then to see my primary to get his sign off, and then we will schedule a date and move to the pre-surgical testing.  Surgery will most likely be in April.

Seeing as when I started this blog I wasn't quite 50 years old, and this April I will hit the old double nickels, obviously From Fat to Fifty isn't quite appropriate anymore.  But hell, not changing it.

So while I am waiting to move forward, I am trying different bariatric vitamins, looking at recipes for pureed (argh - gag ... ) food, and working on the right mind-set.  I took the bariatric surgery class and learned that one of the reasons (besides silly things like preserving muscle tissue) they stress having protein with every meal after surgery - is to keep from losing your hair.  SIGN ME UP FOR LOTS OF PROTEIN! Sometimes things just need to be presented to me in the right way to ensure my cooperation. :)

That's it.  That's my update.  Cindy?  How did you even find this blog anyway?
